FAQs
What kind of windows do you work on?
We specialize in pre-1940 wood windows, especially double-hung style. We do not currently restore steel or stained glass windows.
Do my windows have lead based paint?
If your property was built prior to 1978, your windows most likely have lead based paint. Deering Sashworks LLC is a registered EPA Lead Safe Certified Firm, and complies with the EPA RRP Lead Safe Rule. This includes the use of plastic sheeting to contain dust, use of personal protective equipment, use of HEPA vacuums, and proper cleaning during and after window removal.
How much does a window restoration cost?
Window restoration is labor intensive. The price of window restoration varies greatly depending on the size and style of your window, their state, and your preferences for the level of restoration. To give you a ballpark figure, a complete restoration of a typical, residential, one-over-one, double-hung window begins at $2,400.
When can you work on my project?
Deering Sashworks is a small shop. Although we would love to help everyone save their old windows, we can only take on a limited number of projects. Depending on the size and scope of your project, we are generally working a minimum of four to six months out.
How long will it take?
The time it takes to restore a historic window relates to its size, condition, and level of restoration. We can talk this through during the consultation.
What is your service area?
We serve Southern and Downeast Maine. We need to be more selective on projects that exceed a one hour drive from Portland.
